Ethnic Percussion

Haight Ashbury Music Center stocks one of the largest collections of ethnic percussion on the West Coast. We carry new and used gear for players at all levels. Below is an overview of some of our most popular items.

Our staff has extensive experience with world instruments, and ethnic percussion is a recognized specialty of our shop. (Our general manager is the former owner of VALJE drums.) The store's Latin percussion stock includes a number of Brazillian instruments, such as: agogo bells, berimbaus, pandeiros, tamborims, ganzas, caixas, cuicas, surdos and repeniques. Other Latin percussion includes congas, bongos, timbales, cajons, tantans, batas, and tambouras. Our Latin hand percussion includes claves, guiros, cabasas, vibra-slaps, maracas, castanets, caxixi shakers, cowbells, wood blocks, pleneras and more.

We also carry a large selection of African percussion, including djembes, ashikos and talking drums. Our African hand percussion includes gangkogui double bells, shekeres, shakers and rattles.

In addition, we have an extensive assortment of Middle Eastern percussion, including dumbeks, dholaks, darboukas and ocean drums. Smaller hand percussion includes duffs, finger cymbals and dafs.

We stock other world percussion as well, such as Indian gopichands, tablas, nalls, kharkals and ankle bells; and also Irish bodhran frame drums, spoons and wooden bones. (See our Ethnic Instruments page for an overview of some of the other international musical instruments we carry.)

In addition, Haight Ashbury Music Center has a large selection of drum and percussion accessories, including: sticks, brushes, mallets, pedals, heads, mutes, covers, cases, e-rings, cymbal pads, cymbal mounts, stands, thrones, floor mats, bit keys, metronomes, triggers, drum amps and electronic drum pads.
